Approaching our centenary in 2029, Canberra Grammar School stands as one of Australia’s leading independent co-educational schools, uniting nearly 100 years of tradition with a bold vision for the future.
As an Anglican day and boarding school for students from Pre-School to Year 12, we believe that a co-educational environment best prepares young people for the world beyond school where collaboration, equality, and respect are fundamental to success.
Our inclusive and globally minded community brings together students from more than 40 nations to learn, live and grow with purpose. Set on a magnificent campus in Canberra’s inner south, CGS offers exceptional academic, co-curricular and pastoral opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity, confidence and compassion in every student preparing them to thrive as citizens of the world.
We encourage students to develop critical-thinking skills, confidence in leadership, and the ability to find creative solutions in an increasingly complex world—while remaining active and compassionate citizens. Located on our Red Hill campus, the Senior School features outstanding facilities that support academic, co-curricular, and pastoral programmes.
Strong, respectful relationships underpin success. By truly knowing our students, setting high expectations, and fostering a global outlook, we empower them to find their place in the world.

The War Memorial Hall was buzzing with excitement for last week's 2026 ACT Regional da Vinci Decathlon. Over three days, hundreds of local and regional students from Years 5 to 10 competed across a range of academic challenges from Science and Engineering, to Art and Poetry.
The da Vinci competition is a wonderful example of what we aspire to achieve in our classrooms each day, with students driving their learning through collaboration, individual effort and utilising a range of skills to apply and explore.
With teams competing in every level of the competition, our students were raring to jump into this year’s challenge. We are delighted to announce that in the Primary School, the CGS Year 5 team came second, and the Year 6 team won their competition. In the Senior School, Year 8 came second and Year 10, third. Well done to all students who trained, participated and worked together to make the Decathlon such a huge and exciting success.
Next up, our teams are headed to Sydney to compete in the NSW competition. Wish them luck! ... See MoreSee Less
Two Year 10 students, Zara and Stan, have departed Australia for Scotland, where they will take part in an 8-week cricket exchange at Strathallan School. While the Strathallan cricket exchange has been a long-standing and valued opportunity at CGS, this year marks a historic milestone, with Zara becoming our first female student to participate in the programme.
We wish our talented cricketers, Zara and Stan, the very best of luck and look forward to hearing about their adventures, both on and off the cricket pitch! ... See MoreSee Less
Curious. Creative. Confident. Compassionate. Citizens of the world.
Five Cs for our students to grow into.
Spend an evening with the P&F Book Club, though, and you start to notice a sixth modelled, quietly, by the grown-ups in the room.

This morning, we gathered as a community before dawn broke over the Historic Quad for our School’s annual Anzac Day Dawn Service.
At the centre was the Roll of Honour. Thirty-three names from across the First and Second World Wars, Vietnam and Afghanistan. Each one read into the morning air, each one woven through the past 97 years of the School, and still part of who we are today.
A community shaped by those who came before us, and committed to carrying their legacy forward, together.
Lest we forget. ... See MoreSee Less
