Approaching our centenary in 2029, Canberra Grammar School stands as one of Australia’s leading independent co-educational schools, uniting nearly 100 years of tradition with a bold vision for the future.
As an Anglican day and boarding school for students from Pre-School to Year 12, we believe that a co-educational environment best prepares young people for the world beyond school where collaboration, equality, and respect are fundamental to success.
Our inclusive and globally minded community brings together students from more than 40 nations to learn, live and grow with purpose. Set on a magnificent campus in Canberra’s inner south, CGS offers exceptional academic, co-curricular and pastoral opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity, confidence and compassion in every student preparing them to thrive as citizens of the world.
We encourage students to develop critical-thinking skills, confidence in leadership, and the ability to find creative solutions in an increasingly complex world—while remaining active and compassionate citizens. Located on our Red Hill campus, the Senior School features outstanding facilities that support academic, co-curricular, and pastoral programmes.
Strong, respectful relationships underpin success. By truly knowing our students, setting high expectations, and fostering a global outlook, we empower them to find their place in the world.

The CGS Year 12 cohort for 2026 has broken all previous School records and raised over $70,000 this year for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation! Shaving or cutting their hair as a symbol of solidarity in support of all individuals and families impacted by cancer, our students and staff made yesterday an unforgettable milestone for our School. We extend our thanks to our extremely generous community, without which such an achievement would not have been possible. There is still time to donate; you can find the link here: www.schf.org.au/fundraisers/CGSshaveagainstcancer ... See MoreSee Less
It was a fantastic weekend for our Dragon Boats team this past weekend, as they represented CGS at the ACT Dragon Boat Championships.
Racing over the 500m distance against some of the strongest crews in the ACT was an exciting challenge and a great opportunity for the team to test their speed, teamwork, and determination on the water. Every race required focus, coordination, and effort from every paddler, and our students showed fantastic spirit throughout the day.
Competing at this level was a valuable experience for the crew and a great chance to race against some of the best teams in the region. The event also provided excellent preparation as the team now turns its attention to the upcoming National Dragon Boats Championships at Lake Kawana on the Sunshine Coast.
A big congratulations to all our paddlers for their commitment and effort, and thank you to everyone who supported and cheered on the CGS team! ... See MoreSee Less
On Friday, our Senior CGS Girls Chess Team competed in the ACT Secondary School Girls Chess Competition held at Merici College, achieving an outstanding result. In a remarkable achievement, CGS placed 1st and 2nd overall in Canberra, highlighting the depth and strength of the School’s Chess Programme. As a result, the team will now represent the ACT at the Australian Schools Teams Chess Championship in December. Several individual performances stood out, with Michaella and Cassandra both achieving perfect scores of 7 from 7.
Throughout the competition, all players demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, concentration and determination. They approached each game with maturity and composure, while also supporting one another and engaging positively with students from other schools.
