World Junior Rowing Titles

It is not often the School has a boy involved in the World Junior Rowing Titles. This year Nicholas Barnier Year 11 Eddison, is part of the coxless quad who have been training for the past 3 months and will compete on the Olympic course in Beijing. Nicholas and the team leave for Sydney on Saturday 28 July, for a 5 day training camp at the Sydney Olympic course and depart Australia on Thursday 2 August. We wish Nicholas all the best.

 
Viva la Music at CGS

Congratulations to Old Boy, Christopher Pidcock (2002), who was awarded a Churchill Fellowship for Music recently. Whilst at School Chris's performance in HSC music earned him an inclusion in the prestigious ENCORE concert for outstanding HSC music students. In 2006, he completed a Graduate Diploma in Music at the Conservatorium of Music, Sydney University, and is currently converting this into a Masters degree. Chris intends to use his award for study in Germany in 2008.

Congratulations to Old Boy High Achievers

Two former students, Jacob Taylor 2005 (School Captain), and Jimmy Bai 2006, were awarded undergraduate scholarships at recent award ceremonies. Both Jacob and Jimmy were high achievers at School with UAI scores over 99% and received the prestigious NSW Premier's Award for Excellence.

Jacob was awarded a University of Sydney's undergraduate scholarship. The scholarship is awarded on a combination of academic merit together with a high level of school and community involvement, and other skills such as leadership and communication. Jacob also won a scholarship from the Australia-China Council in 2006 to study at Liaoning University, Shenyang for one year.

Jimmy received one of eight scholarships from the Australian National University's College of Business and Economics. The scholarship is awarded on academic merit and based on final Year 12 results.

National Youth Week Winner

Congratulations to Andrew Babington, Year 11, whose short film, The Last Day, won first prize in the Australian National Youth Week ShootIT Film Festival.

Andrew's film centred around themes of global warming and his generation's responsibility to pass on a healthy environment to the next generation.

A finalist in The Shepparton Film Festival and The Canberra Film Festival, and more recently, winner of the award for the Highly Commended Filmmaker in the Lights! Canberra! Action! Film Festival, Andrew now has his sights set for Tropfest 2008, and will begin shooting his next short film in the coming months.
