Champions on and in the Water |
Congratulations to Nick Barnier and Ben Treffers on their outstanding achievements.
Nick, Year 12, is set to represent Australia at the 2008 Olympic Youth Camp in Beijing. He is one of two athletes selected by the Australian Olympic Committee. Last year Nick, as a member of the Australian Junior Men's quad scull, competed on the Beijing Olympic course at the Junior World Championships. He received the Pierre de Coubertin Award in 2007. This year he was also selected in the Men's Junior 2X to represent Australia in Austria, later in the year.
Ben, Year 11, is a member of an eight-person Australian squad who has been selected to swim at the World Youth Championships in Mexico in July. It's Ben's first world event, but he trains with Olympic swimmers at the AIS. Last year Ben broke ACT residents' records over the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly for the 15-years age-group. Ben's favourite events are the 100m backstroke and the 100m butterfly.
