Spiritual Dimension
| Spiritual Dimension |
The School culture is framed by the Christian tradition and built upon a foundation of ethics and moral principles. As a Christian school, the teachings and witness of Jesus and the Bible form the foundations of the School's life and practice. The School recognises the great variety of belief and spiritual journey that students are involved in, and endeavours to allow and inform individuals to explore new dimensions of the spiritual life. The School's Religious and Values Education program is designed to share information and allow for reflection in a developing way. The ChaplaincyWorship and religious teaching follow the practice of the Anglican Church of Australia. Canberra Grammar School has strong links with the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn and is committed to the Vision statements for the Diocese. The School has a Chaplain and an Associate Chaplain on staff. All boys attend chapel once a week, with boarders attending on Thursdays. There are opportunities for boys to take an active participation in Chapel Services. Each House has a Sacristan (usually Year 12) who plays a significant part in planning, officiating and fostering House involvement in Chapel.

Family and Friends Service Confirmation is for those who are ready to make their own statements and promises that they wish to belong to God's family and to be followers of Jesus. The Bishop leads the Service to hear the statements of commitment and to pray for a blessing of the Holy Spirit upon those confirmed. There is a period of preparation to test whether this is the right step to be taking, and to learn more about God, Jesus and the church. Usually those being confirmed are at least in Year 8 and have been baptised. If you haven’t been baptised but would like to do so that can be arranged with the Chaplain. 2008 will be the next opportunity for confirmation or baptism. Admission to Holy CommunionYear 7 students who would like to be admitted to Holy Communion should talk with the Chaplain. The Admission Service is to be held in June after some preparation sessions. Holy Communion is a significant way in which Jesus asked his followers to remember him and all that he has done. |
