I have pleasure in announcing that Yudhish Shakespeare, Edwards House, has been appointed School Captain, and Anthony Tridgell, Garran House, Vice Captain. The appointments will take effect from the beginning of Fourth Term, 2007.

Congratulations to both boys.

Staff Appointments

Director of Early Childhood Campus Directors

After an extensive search I am pleased to announce the successful applicants to the following positions, commencing January 2008. These positions have been vacated by the departure of Norma Edwards from the Southside Campus, Kerry Allen stepping down from her Director role in the ELC, and Anne Gisz's desire to resign from her position at Northside for health reasons with a view to returning in a teaching capacity.

Director of Early Childhood Southside Campus (including ELC)

Mrs Leith Briggs has been appointed to the position of Southside Director of Early Childhood at Canberra Grammar (which incorporates Southside and ELC). Leith has 20 years experience in early childhood. She has held teaching positions at Lowood State School, Julia Creek State School, and John Paul College, all in Queensland. Leith became the Director of Logan Bear Child Care Centre for two years before becoming the Foundation Director of John Paul College's Child Care Centre, a position she filled for six years. More recently, Leith has spent three years as the Head of Early Learning at John Paul College. Leith has a strong focus on the development of literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunities provided through an inquiry approach to education.

I look forward to Leith taking up this senior leadership position and maintaining the high standards of Early Childhood Education at Canberra Grammar School.

Director of Early Childhood Northside Campus

I am pleased to announce Jennifer Thompson has been appointed to the position of Northside Director of Early Childhood at Canberra Grammar. Jennifer is well known to many of you as a member of the School's teaching staff since 1999. In that time she has filled various teaching positions at Northside and Southside Campuses. Jennifer has previous experience in the position as Acting Director at Northside. Last year she completed a Masters in Education at the University of Canberra and is currently studying online for the Postgraduate Certificate of Early Childhood Education through Macquarie University.

I look forward to Jennifer taking up this senior leadership position and maintaining the high standards of Early Childhood Education at Canberra Grammar School.

Senior Staff Movements 2007
Friday, 30 March 2007

Mr Bill Maude will stand down from his position of Director of Curriculum at the end of this
year and spend most of 2008 on long service leave. Bill Maude will return at the beginning
of 2009, to either a full-time or part-time teaching position.

Bill makes a significant contribution to Canberra Grammar and has done so since he was
appointed in 1976. Over the past thirty years Bill has been a teacher of German,
Housemaster of Sheaffe House, Head of Modern Languages, spent two years teaching in
the UK and Germany, a member of the Curriculum Review Committee, Debating Coach,
Senior Master (Academic), Director of Studies, Director of Curriculum and the Master of
Ceremonies at the Evening of Fine Food and Music.

Bill has been a wise voice in many staff discussions and a most valued member of the
Senior Staff and more recently the Senior School Team. He has helped advise hundreds
of boys and parents and has been meticulous in the carrying out of his responsibilities. He
has indeed been a loyal and faithful member of staff.

I know I join with all the staff in thanking Bill for all he does for Canberra Grammar. We wish
Bill well in his final year as Director of Curriculum.

Mrs Norma Edwards, Director of the Early Learning Centre, will retire from this position at
the end of Term 2, this year. Norma has been the Director of the ELC since it was opened
in 2001 and prior to this, she held the position of Director of the Canberra Grammar Pre-School.

The Early Learning Centre at Canberra Grammar is outstanding and is well known in Canberra
for excellent early childhood education. This is in no small way due to Norma Edwards' Leadership.

I take this opportunity to thank Norma for all that she has done for the children, parents and
staff at Canberra Grammar over 25 years. It has been a magnificent contribution. We will
farewell Norma in an appropriate manner towards the end of next term.

Mrs Kerry Allen, Director of Southside Infants School, will retire from her position at the end of
this year. Kerry has been Director of Southside since 1995 and has been associated with
Canberra Grammar since 1978, Kerry Allen's contribution and influence has been significant
and we have indeed been fortunate to have had Kerry on staff. The quality of teaching, learning
and pastoral care at Southside has been superb under Kerry's leadership and she will be missed
greatly. Many boys and girls have been nurtured in the most positive of ways at Southside and we
have Kerry and her staff to thank for this.

In due course we will begin the process of appointing new staff to leadership positions in early
childhood, beginning in the Early Learning Centre and then at Southside Infants. All appropriate steps
will be taken to ensure that we continue to offer the best possible care and learning experiences
for our youngest boys and girls.
