School Colours and School Medal

One of the highest awards a young man can receive at Canberra Grammar is School Colours. These awards are given for an outstanding performance in a School related activity.

The Headmaster makes the decision after seeking advice from a committee comprising staff and boys. It is an interesting process that reveals an amazing and remarkable level of talent and dedication.

Over the years, the recipients have encompassed a complete range of talent exhibited by Canberra Grammar School Year 12 students.

Sam Pender-Bayne-Music and particularly Composition

Sam is an extremely gifted composer of music. One highlight has been his selection in the Sydney Symphony Sinfonietta Project 2007-held in March this year at the ABC Studios in Sydney. This was a national composition opportunity open to all Australian secondary school students.

Remarkably, Sam was one of only eight students selected from around Australia where his composition Mors Pavoris was workshopped and performed by an elite ensemble of musicians auditioned from the Sydney Symphony's Sinfonia and Fellowship programs under the leadership of acclaimed Australian educator and conductor, Richard Gill. Sam's composition was received with critical acclaim by Mr Gill, the players and the audience.
