Trip to Arnhem Land

Canberra Grammar has a long established relationship with the Aboriginal community in Ngukurr in Arnhem Land.

This year, a group from the School will be undertaking a 15 day excursion to the Ngukurr community travelling via Kakadu and Katherine. The tour will leave on Friday 18 July (the Friday of the second week of the semester break) returning Saturday 2 August. Students will miss the first week of Term 3.

The group will spend a week travelling through the Northern Terrority and then spend eight days in the community.

Trip organiser, Trevor Dunbar of the design, art and technology department, says: It simply is another world within our own country that few of us get to appreciate. All of the boys who attend return with a very different outlook on life, even if for the short term. The only stars are in the skies'.

Director of Teaching and Learning, Rob Welsh says 'Trevor has established strong relationships with the Wilfred 'mob' and we go to Ngukurr as their guests and as such our boys are welcomed as part of the 'blackfella' community. This means that our boys get to experience, through being immersed in it, 'blackfella' values and ways of operating, learning and thinking.

Total cost is $3,200. The expenses run to the hire of two troupe carriers and the associated fuel costs.
