Expressions of interest are invited from all boys in Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 to join a 12 day caving expedition to the Nullarbor desert. The Nullarbor desert is a vast flat area of limestone which has many amazing and spectacular caves. It is located on the Great Australian Bight in South Australia and Western Australia. The trip will involve flying to Adelaide and then travelling by vehicle overland into the desert, where we will camp and explore a variety of caves. This is a once in a lifetime chance to experience a unique and spectacular part of Australia. The caves tend to be mostly horizontal (i.e. not much abseiling), but many contain amazing gypsum crystal formations, fossils and deep crystal clear lakes where it is possible to swim. Dates: The trip will be 12 days in length and will be held during the mid year break (28 June to 20 July 2008). Exact dates to be confirmed. Numbers: There are places for 10 boys. Preferences will be given to those who can demonstrate a strong interest in the outdoors and caving. There will be 4 staff members on the trip. Cost: The cost will be approximately $1000 per person. This will include all food, transport and specialist caving equipment. Flights from Canberra to Adelaide will be extra. Contact: If you are interested, please contact Mr Mayo from Outdoor Education This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it There will be an information evening for all interested parties and their parents with photos from previous expeditions and a question and answers session. There may also be a day caving at Wee Jasper on a weekend prior to the trip in order to educate on cave safety, minimal impact, gear and caving techniques. Dates to be announced. |
