Kookaburra Cup - great sporstmanship |
|
The pre-cricket season Kookaburra Cup, a 20/20 match series with eight players per team, was played in Canberra on 2-4 October between teams from all over the east coast. There was a Cup competition for the U16s and U14s and also a Plate for the same age groups. Canberra Grammar entered a team for the U14 Cup who were managed by Mrs Diana Marshall (mother of a team member) and coached by Mr Bill Teece (father of a team member).
Although the hot, blustery weather made for difficult playing conditions, our team got really stuck in to the competition and played some great cricket with tight fielding and bowling and good aggressive batting. After two and a half days of thoroughly competitive cricket with matches against Marist, North Canberra Gungahlin, St Eddies and Queanbeyan, our team won through to the finals on the basis of three outright wins and the highest run rate. In the finals they narrowly lost to a team made up from the ACT U14 Reps, but showed good skills and great sportsmanship in the way they competed against this selected team.
On 9 October Nick Lyall was presented with the Kookaburra Cup Trophy, U14 Cup Division for Leading Run Scorer.
Back row: Declan Norrie, Nick Lyall, Coach Bill Teece, Angus Teece.
Front row: Paul Marshall, Scott Murn, Prashant Kelshiker, Kurt Olsen, Will Spencer.
