Expressions of interest are invited from all boys in Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 to join a 12 day caving expedition to the Nullarbor desert.
The Nullarbor desert is a vast flat area of limestone which has many amazing and spectacular caves. It is located on the Great Australian Bight in South Australia and Western Australia.
The trip will involve flying to Adelaide and then travelling by vehicle overland into the desert, where we will camp and explore a variety of caves. This is a once in a lifetime chance to experience a unique and spectacular part of Australia. The caves tend to be mostly horizontal (i.e. not much abseiling), but many contain amazing gypsum crystal formations, fossils and deep crystal clear lakes where it is possible to swim.
Dates: The trip will be 12 days in length and will be held during the mid year break (28 June to 20 July 2008). Exact dates to be confirmed.
Numbers: There are places for 10 boys. Preferences will be given to those who can demonstrate a strong interest in the outdoors and caving. There will be 4 staff members on the trip.
Cost: The cost will be approximately $1000 per person. This will include all food, transport and specialist caving equipment. Flights from Canberra to Adelaide will be extra.
Contact: If you are interested, please contact Mr Mayo from Outdoor Education

There will be an information evening for all interested parties and their parents with photos from previous expeditions and a question and answers session. There may also be a day caving at Wee Jasper on a weekend prior to the trip in order to educate on cave safety, minimal impact, gear and caving techniques. Dates to be announced.

We are pleased to announce that the Fete raised more than $48,000, which is in keeping with last year's Fete and recent years. It was a tremendous day and a great success, both financially and as a community event.
The proceeds of the Fete will be split between the Senior School and Primary School on a 60/40 basis (in line with enrolments) with approximately $25,000 going to the Senior School to extend the information technology facilities and $16,800 going to the Primary School for playgrounds.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the 2008 Grammar Fete such a success.
And it's not too early to start thinking about next year's Fete, which will be held on Saturday 4 April. Coordinator Anne Frish has written to say:
Thank you to Michelle Lees who has been coordinating the Garden Stall at the Fete for the past three years and who is now no longer able to take on this role.
We are looking for someone to take over from Michelle and co-ordinate the Garden Stall for 2009.
Michelle is very happy to provide lots of information to the new coordinator and to hand over the box of goodies etc. Michelle can be contacted via e-mail on

Please do consider this role, as it is a major part of the Fete and a beautiful stall to have.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped with the 2008 Fete, it was wonderful to have so much support. Your time is very much appreciated and without this the Fete would not be possible.
Thanks again and I look forward to working with you all again for 2009.
Thank you Anne.

Canberra Grammar has a long established relationship with the Aboriginal community in Ngukurr in Arnhem Land.
This year, a group from the School will be undertaking a 15 day excursion to the Ngukurr community travelling via Kakadu and Katherine. The tour will leave on Friday 18 July (the Friday of the second week of the semester break) returning Saturday 2 August. Students will miss the first week of Term 3.
The group will spend a week travelling through the Northern Terrority and then spend eight days in the community.
Trip organiser, Trevor Dunbar of the design, art and technology department, says: It simply is another world within our own country that few of us get to appreciate. All of the boys who attend return with a very different outlook on life, even if for the short term. The only stars are in the skies'.
Director of Teaching and Learning, Rob Welsh says 'Trevor has established strong relationships with the Wilfred 'mob' and we go to Ngukurr as their guests and as such our boys are welcomed as part of the 'blackfella' community. This means that our boys get to experience, through being immersed in it, 'blackfella' values and ways of operating, learning and thinking.
Total cost is $3,200. The expenses run to the hire of two troupe carriers and the associated fuel costs.
