This morning the Senior School Assembly witnessed the Commissioning of Bradley Carron-Arthur as Captain of School and Richard Greig as Vice-Captain of School.

As part of the formal ceremony, Yudhish Shakespeare, Year 10, spoke about the role of School Captains in the life of the School. Father Rex asked Bradley and Richard: 'Will you be faithful and responsible in carrying out your new role?'. Both young men answered that they will gladly do so.

Mr Murray gave words of thanks and presented the new leaders with Certificates and Captain's ties.

Mr Ball introduced Jack Ducommon and Nikolai Sidhu who spoke on behalf of the Captains who responded with their thanks.

A specific priority for Pastoral Care is to enhance ways in which students relate to girls and women. One of the ways the Committee is addressing this issue is by working through the White Ribbon Campaign. This campaign, led by men, aims to eliminate violence towards women. The School is keen to break down any existent sexist and rigid attitudes toward women, and to promote friendships and relationships based on respect.

On 28 September, Solaimon Fahiz (Year 11), Nikolai Sidhu (Year 11), Jonathon Anderson (Year 10) and Ethan Ross (Year 10) attended a workshop at Parliament House, organised by the White Ribbon Campaign's ACT committee. The workshop was sponsored jointly by Senator Bob McMullan and Senator Gary Humphries and led by a CGS Old Boy, Dr Michael Flood ('84).

Our students contributed candidly and positively to the discussions and are keen to work with other students to raise the awareness of this issue. They plan to begin by concentrating their efforts around the upcoming Year 10 semi-formal on 27 October. The next workshop involving more ACT schools is scheduled for 2 November. Watch this space for further news of this group's activities.

A Confirmation Service will be held at the Chapel of Christ the King at 11.45am on 9 November. Candidates for this year will meet with Fr Rex, lunchtime, Wednesday 6 September, to begin their preparation. They should fill in an application form before then.

Year 4 has been working on a unit based on the Solar System. It has been a extraordinary experience and we have all enjoyed the freedom and discovery this space journey provides. Whether it be an online demonstration of the Mars Rover mission or an excursion to the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex, we have all learnt many new and fascinating facts that we will never forget.

Recently all boys have become citizens of a planet in our Solar System and have developed social responsibilities and an appreciation of how to adapt in an unusual environment. They have connected with their planet's features and will try and convince you why a trip to their planet is the best. For example who could refuse the motto - "let Saturn run rings around you" or "Mars - the planet of extremes". A travel brochure convincing you of the benefits and pleasures of their planets is a very enjoyable read.

The boys wrapped up their unit with an out of this world Intergalactic Space Expo to share and display their work. All planets had brochures, food and the boys even dressed in appropriate costumes.

The highlight of the unit is definitely all the wonderful space projects that are proudly on display in the foyer of the John Lingard Hall. Whether it is a model, poster, diorama or video, they are all fantastic and demonstrate the enjoyment and enthusiasm for Year 4 Space!
