NSW swim scholarship holder, Ben Treffers, Year 9, met a whose-who of Australian swimming at a coach-swimmer camp on the Gold Coast during the holidays. Ben says: It was awesome to have the opportunity to train with world-class athletes, doing the same programs, and getting to know them. Among his many memorable moments were swimming in the same lane as Grant Hackett and training with coaches Glenn Baker and Greg Salter.
On the first weekend of Term 4, Ben was chosen to represent NSW against QLD in the State of Origin meet. He put in a great performance in all events and set an ACT record in the 50m fly, achieving another big personal best of 26.81 seconds. |

Year 2 are enjoying investigating the language of colour with Miss Kesby in preparation for their toy designs – whether it be a doll’s house interior or the future toy car. Navigating through an online colour profiler prompted their descriptions.
Will they choose ruby like strawberries, blood, berry or chilli red, hot house mauroon, caramel yellow, silver sunlight or bear brown? What about cheeky or Barbie doll pink, the celebration of life or there’s Garfield, basketball or amber orange?
“I loved planning my dream house!“ Some colours are like sports – they’re energetic and fun.”
Perhaps the cool colours of shimmering clean water like sea, beach or pebble blue or a lush rainforest with goblin green.
Boring grey wasn’t popular when there’s tints of cloudy, ice, wishing or skull white to choose from or bird black. I wonder if a texture, taste or smell influences their choice – lavender or daffodils, icecream or blueberries, smooth river pebbles or soft sand.
We’ll have to wait and see what choices are made. Next is the planning of their toy designs, writing a procedure so their design can be replicated.

ELC Visit to the Wetlands |
|
Thursday, 02 November 2006 |
On a lovely sunny November 1st, Pre School Yellow set off to the Jerrabomberra Wetlands for the Birrigai programme, “Wetland Wonders’.
Great fun was had at the first activity of pond-dipping. With the aid of our helpful parents, each child used a net to discover what wild-life was living in the water. Although one child was hoping to find a crocodile, the main discovery was water boatman, snails, tadpoles, dragon-fly larvae and a shrimp. The children were thrilled to examine these with magnifying glasses and later under electric microscopes.
After enjoying the environmental activities supplied in the classroom, the children walked along the path to the bird-hides. Along the way they found pictures of food which they would ‘feed’ to the wooden animals and birds. They learnt which creatures ate plants and those which ate insects and frogs. However, the fox was an animal which was not included in the feeding and its negative impact on wildlife was spoken about.
Before long, our visit was over and the weary children and adults boarded the bus for the ELC. Thank you parents for your help!
