Rowing

Canberra Grammar School Rowing Association is proud to be able to support arguably one of the most team oriented sports available to our sons.  Rowing engenders the desire of our boys to achieve personal fitness as well as work with their mates on performance endeavours that support personal objectives as well as represent their School with pride as a result of their collective capability and crew skills.

The Rowing Association’s objective is to provide assistance to the School with time, energy, friendship amongst ‘rowing families’ and fun through a number of channels.  Parents and Friends are encouraged to be actively involved with the general operation of the Rowing Shed.  This support can come in a variety of ways, such as being available to assist with the training sessions that are primarily managed by the Master-in-Charge of Rowing, Mrs Kate Borger and his coaches; assisting with the various jobs that need to be done for ‘away regattas’ which are generally in Sydney; transporting teams and kit to regattas; being a Boat-Race-Official for Regattas on Lake Burley Griffin (you need a boat licence for this activity – boats are supplied!) and fund raising.

During the summer terms there are Regattas on the Lake most Saturdays. If there are no Regatta, practice sessions will be performed.  In the lower years, practice will usually begin around 8am, and for the more senior years, around 6am. Your son’s coach will be able to tell you the schedules.

Regattas tend to begin at 7am and finish in the early afternoon.  In summer the wind tends to make rowing more difficult and not so enjoyable for practice or competition events.

This page provides a number of documents that you can view on-line or download.  They are:
The Rowing Information booklet that outlines ‘Rowing 101’.

We encourage all parents of all boys to be actively engaged with the excitement, enjoyment and challenges of Rowing.  Please contact any of the members of the Rowing Association (see section on the top right of this page) should you have any queries.

We also encourage parents to get to know their boy’s coach as to do so will greatly assist with the engenderment of the parent's understanding of the challenges that their son will experience during his rowing career and therefore identify areas that will cement the highly important partnership of son, Parent and Coach.

The Regatta schedule is managed by the ACT Rowing Association, a body that represents the many clubs and schools who row in Canberra.  Canberra Grammar School’s competition schedule is managed by the School’s Master-in-Charge, Kate Borger.
