One School

Our School operates as One School – from Pre-school to Year 12 - under the leadership of the Headmaster. From the smallest pre-schooler to the most mature young man, each student’s education and progress is supported by four core programs which unite the School:

  • Teaching and Learning – ensuring our academic programs are coherent, integrated and moving forward; delivering outstanding results at every level.
  • Co-curricular activities – engaging the mind, body and soul of every student in sport, music, art and drama, out-door activities and adventures appropriate to their age and developmental needs.
  • Pastoral Care – the mechanisms by which we nurture the happiness and wellbeing of each student and the whole community.
  • Spiritual Life – embracing Anglican teaching and values.

And we are united by the quality of our teaching staff. Dedicated, talented and deeply engaged as practitioners of their proud profession, our teaching staff are our greatest asset. Outside the classroom they contribute to school life in a myriad number of ways - as boarding housemasters, masters-in-charge, heads of department, housemasters, tutors, and coaches.

From Year 3 onwards, Canberra Grammar School is united as a school for boys. We are in the business of educating boys, and we do it well. Among the great advantages we see of single gender education is that boys can revel in the business of being boys. As a teaching community we value and understand the ways boys operate and think. We recognise the pragmatism and intuition of boys and use these qualities to grow awareness of the responsibilities and opportunities all our boys have to become mentors of younger boys and leaders in our school community and beyond. The care and concern of our student leaders for their younger colleagues is a special aspect of our School life.
