Co-curricular Music Photographs - will be taken on Wednesday 15 September. [more]

Music is a tremendously important part of Canberra Grammar and we offer a wide selection of choirs, orchestras and bands as well as many smaller ensembles for individual instrument groups.

Participation in Co-Curricular ensembles provides

  • A group musical experience to complement private tuition
  • Interest and stimulation outside the classroom
  • Socialisation for those in ensembles Yr 7 and above which combine with Canberra Girls' Grammar School
  • Opportunities to experience visiting tutors, tours and to work with visiting ensembles from both Australia and overseas

Conditions of Learning

  • All members are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances. If you are unable to attend, a note is to be given to the conductor/manager, preferably prior to the absence.
  • All members are expected to arrive at rehearsals at least 10 minutes before the start of the rehearsal to allow time for setting up, warming up and tuning up.
  • A pencil and eraser must be brought to all rehearsals.
  • All members must wear winter uniform for performances unless otherwise advised.

Fees

Years 3 - 6
There is no annual participation fee for co-curricular music in the Junior School however there may be occasional charges for ensemble workshops, tours and concerts. Parents will be advised of all charges in advance.

Years 7 - 12
An annual Co-curricular Levy of $65 will be charged to your son's account, this covers the costs associated with the purchase of music and to assist the Music Department in complying with copyright requirements. This levy covers as many ensembles as your son may wish to join. Some of the smaller instrumental groups, eg: Saxophone and Guitar ensembles many attract a small fee, this is determined by the number of participants.
