Years 3 - 6

Educating Boys

Primary friends

Dedicated to the education of boys from Year 3 to Year 6, the Junior School draws upon our boys’ natural curiosity and sense of adventure. Boys are engaged in programs of discovery that build upon their prior knowledge and skills; promote and develop learning independence; and emphasise clearly articulated values and attitudes. Constructing their own understandings and applying what they have learnt in a practical sense sets the scene for the boys' successful learning experiences.

Understanding and knowing about boys informs what we do in the Junior School. Learning for boys is about movement, considered risk-taking, scaffolds, being heard, humour, goal setting and competition. We provide our boys with a learning environment in which there are clear boundaries, high expectations and exemplary role models. We understand and support the emerging, distinctive needs of each boy as he grows up.

Our boys are taught and expected to be aware of how they learn; to engage in self-reflection; enjoy the freedom to ask questions and provide suggestions, and the confidence to take risks. Choosing from a wide range of learning opportunities within and beyond the classroom setting, our boys’ spirit of adventure and determination enables them to experience success in many arenas – the musical, sports, arts, cultural and academic.

Situated on the main campus, Junior School boys enjoy spacious surrounds to learn in and have access to the many facilities on offer at Canberra Grammar.
