Academic and Music Scholarships to encourage and support talented students entering Year 7 or Year 11 in 2014 are now open. (Current Scholarship holders need not apply)
The Scholarship Program timeline for 2014 entry will be:
- 11 March 2013 - Scholarship applications close
- 16 March 2013 - Scholarship Examination
Note: All Academic and Music Scholarship applicants are required to undertake the Scholarship Examination
- 25-29 March 2013 - Music Scholarship Auditions
- April 2013 - Awardees notified

Academic Scholarships
Canberra Grammar School is pleased to offer the following Academic Scholarships for entry to the indicated year level in 2014:
Year 7: CGS Foundation Scholarships
Up to five scholarships worth 25% of the tuition fee over six years are open to new or current students seeking to enter Year 7, at least two of which may be awarded to external applicants.
Year 11: Paul McKeown Academic Scholarships
Up to three scholarships worth up to 25% of the tuition fee over two years are open to new or current students seeking to enter Year 11, at least one of which may be awarded to an external applicant and one to an *International Baccalaureate candidate.
*Canberra Grammar School is currently a candidate school for the IB and this offer is subject to the school gaining authorisation to conduct the IB Diploma Program.
Year 11: Hazlehurst Science and Technology Scholarship
One scholarship worth up to 25% of the tuition fee is offered by the generosity of Mr Peter Hazlehurst to new or current students seeking to enter Year 11 who have a demonstrably outstanding talent for ICT or Science.
Applicants will have excellent mathematical, logical and problem solving skills and be aspiring to a career in Science, Technology or related fields. In addition, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate an outstanding academic record and be intending to study Science and/or ICT in Years 11 and 12. In the event that no student can be found who exemplifies the intent of the Scholarship, the Hazlehurst Scholarship will not be awarded for the year.
Music Scholarships
The School places a high value on musical talent and seeks to encourage outstanding musicians through the award of a number of prestigious music scholarships to students who, for the duration of their scholarship, would be expected to study elective music, participate in School musical groups and performances and take instrumental or vocal tuition either at the School or alternatively as approved by the Head of Music if the School is unable to provide the necessary expertise.
Year 7 – 9: Ann Jory Music Scholarship
The Ann Jory Music Scholarship was offered to one student in 2013 and will support organ or vocal tuition for a period of three years up to a value of $2500 per year. Students entering Years 5 to 9 are encouraged to apply. The Ann Jory Music Scholarship will be offered again in 2015 for 2016.
Year 7: CGS Foundation Music Scholarships
Up to two scholarships worth 20% of the tuition fee and the cost of instrumental/vocal tuition up to a value of $2500 per year for up to six years are open to new or current students seeking to enter Year 7. At least one will be awarded to an external applicant.
Application pre-requisite: Minimum standard of 5th Grade AMEB or equivalent.
Year 11: Tim Murray Music Scholarship
One scholarship worth up to 20% of the tuition fee and the cost of instrumental/vocal tuition up to a value of $5000 per year for Years 11 and 12 is open to new or current students seeking to enter Year 11. Applications open each year in October with auditions being held in March the following year.
Application pre-requisite: Minimum standard of 7th Grade AMEB or equivalent.

Boarding Scholarships
Year 7 & 11: The CGS Foundation Boarding Scholarship
Limited support is available to extend Scholarship fee remissions to include a portion of the residential fee for boarding. Applicants who wish to be considered for such support are asked to indicate their interest in their Music or Academic Scholarship application forms.
Candidates must perform sufficiently well in the Academic or Music Scholarship assessments to be considered for a Scholarship before they can receive a Boarding Scholarship.
Whether or not they win a scholarship, new applicants to the School for Years 7 and 11 whose academic scholarship examination results place them in the top 25% of all external scholarship applicants for their year group will be given first priority offers of places at the School (subject to satisfying the normal entry criteria and application procedures outlined in the School’s Admissions Policy).
