Boarding

Canberra Grammar School has always been a proud boarding school and we are even more committed and passionate about our boarding offer, having just completed a $1.3 million renovation of the boarding accommodation.

Flexible options to suit your family at any given time

We offer traditional term-time boarding and to assist the ever changing needs of families we now also offer flexible boarding where students spend Monday to Thursday nights at the School, taking advantage of the study, social and sporting resources available, then join their families for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Casual boarding is also available for current students.

Modern and friendly accommodation

Two fully refurbished houses accommodate approximately eighty boys from Years 7 to 12 with individual rooms for those in Years 9 to 12. Younger boys benefit from having close companionship and support during the early years of boarding: older boys value the independence and privacy of their own space. All boys enjoy Wi-Fi internet access, study and social spaces and modern fully-renovated bathrooms.

Our facilities are first-class

Our boarding houses have computer areas with email and internet access and a library. All boys have access to a Common Room with kitchen, billiard table, television and students and staff eat their meals together in our beautiful Dining Hall.

There are tennis and squash courts, gymnasiums, an indoor swimming pool, music practice rooms, various ovals and cricket nets, and on weekends, boys can lift weights, play basketball and table tennis in the first-class Health and Physical Education Centre. All students have access to the 7 bed Health Centre.

Our support is genuine

Our boarders have twenty-four hour, 7 day a week support from an incredible team of dedicated and caring professionals, led by Connor Barrett, Head of Boarding. The team also includes live in and visiting tutors, a Housemother, a registered nurse and visiting doctor. Academic tutors offer that little bit extra to support our commitment to academic excellence while our Housemother is the mum away from home who meets the everyday needs of boarders.

The boarding house leadership program is another support network for students based on the principle that all students are leaders on some level and the boarders can themselves contribute

Parent participation

Staying in touch with family is important to Canberra Grammar School and we welcome parent contact and involvement. The Boarder Parent Support Group meets each term where feedback, initiatives and inquiries are openly discussed. And of course, parents and students have unlimited access to one another.

Further information and assistance

The Registrar provides assistance and support with enrolment procedures and arrangements prior to entry to the School, including guardianship and accommodation matters, health insurance, visa and passport matters. Most overseas students seeking a place at Canberra Grammar School will need to undertake capability and achievement tests which will help to assess the student's ability to manage the courses offered and their English proficiency.
