'We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.'
Winston Churchill
We seek to live as a Christian community. Among our Purpose and Values two statements inspire the direction of Community Service:
- The encouragement of an understanding and acceptance of the spiritual and moral basis of life;
- The development of responsible citizens with a willingness to serve both their fellow students and the wider community.
We see Community Service as a fine opportunity for Year 10 students (in particular) to learn the value of social service and helping others. We ask them to give of their time and energy to the community as a whole – and to a particular organisation of their choice.
The Community Care and Concern Committee believes that the experience of helping others is so valuable that it can often be considered as a ‘turning point’ in a student’s life.
We support and encourage each boy’s full participation in his chosen community service project and encourage our boys to build quality relationships with people outside the immediate school community.
In times of rapid change and great upheaval, there is an even stronger need to help others and in doing so, focus our own lives.
Community Care and Concern Committee Mission Statement: To raise and donate money and goods to the wider community and to encourage Canberra Grammar School students to appreciate a bigger vision of the world.
- Encourage student participation in community activities.
- Organise the distribution of funds to the local, national and international community.
- Act ethically and take responsibility in our collection and distribution of funds.
- Develop an understanding of the community activities and issues of students.
- Encourage students to give up their time (rather than just money) for the community.
- Work towards sustaining the environment.
- Act as the prime collector and distributor of charitable funds at Canberra Grammar School.
