A triathlon is an athletic event consisting of swimming, cycling and running over various distances. In most modern triathlons, these events are placed back-to-back in immediate sequence and a competitor's official time includes the time required to 'transition' between the individual legs of the race, including any time necessary for changing clothes and shoes. As a result, proficiency in swimming, cycling, and running alone is not sufficient to guarantee a triathlete a competitive time: trained triathletes have learned to race each stage in a way that preserves their energy and endurance for subsequent stages.

Most races in the ACT are conducted by Triathlon ACT and there is a cost involved. Primary School events usually involve a 100m swim, a 1.5 kilometre cycle and an 800 metre run. More information can be found at http://www.triathlonact.com.au

WELCOME TO TRIATHLON

Welcome to the 07/08 Triathlon season. For those who are veterans of the Program you will be very familiar with the calendar printed below. For new students it is important to keep the calendar handy so you are aware of training needs and upcoming events. Coaches this year include Mr Tim Guthrie and
Mr Tony Laudenbach.

Trainings are held on Wednesday afternoon starting at 3.30pm and finishing at 5pm. The meeting place for all training sessions is the tanbark in front of the Year 6 classrooms. Please remember:

riding bikes before training starts is not permitted;
bring your road worthy mountain bike and helmet for all bike sessions;
swimmers, goggles, towel and running gear are needed for swim sessions.

All races that the boys compete in are conducted by Triathlon ACT and there is a cost involved. More information will be provided nearer to the date or each race or alternatively you can go to http://www.triathlonact.com.au

All up we have three races this season, the most ever – should be a cracker of a season!
