We are the only school in Australia to teach motor racing. We do so because of the strong, lifelong educational benefits, and because this is a sport which resonates strongly with the interests of many boys as they grow into young men.
We have had over thirty boys licensed and racing so far, and many more have obtained practice licences and have learned to drive at a level only kart-based training can provide. It has been said by those who know...including current Formula 1 drivers...that if you can drive a kart well, you can drive anything. Modern race karts are very sophisticated pieces of design and they feel like that on the track.
Our race school teaches far more than driving, and we address racecraft, set up of the kart for optimum performance, and the all-important routine maintenance, an area our boys are totally responsible for. We stress self-discipline and responsibility when in charge of a vehicle, and boys quickly come to understand that quality teamwork is vital for success.
Our boys are members of the Canberra Kart Racing Club. The track near Queanbeyan has the safety features of Australian Karting Association tracks, and gravel traps, tyre barriers etc. do a good job of guarding against the consequences of learners’ indiscretions.
The newly established parents’ Karting Association, under the leadership of President Roger Franzen, has taken on the role of supporting this sport, and we expect it to continue to thrive in the years to come.
