Spitfires Match Report Thursday the 15th of March |
|
Tuesday, 20 March 2007 |
Tonight
was the last game of the summer 2006/2007 season. Alas, it was not a
fairytale ending to the season for the Spitfires, with our third loss
in the season 2:5. But this is not reflective of a wonderful season.
The
Spitfires were beaten by a better team on the night. There was no
disgrace in it. The Redbacks coach remarked to me as the boys were
shaking hands after the game, that he thought it was a tough game and
that the Spitfires just didn't seem to ever give in. I agree. I should
also point out that the Redbacks gave the Spitfires three cheers, in
appreciation of the game and the manner in which the boys played the
game. For the first time, the Grammar Spitfires were spontaneously,
openly and genuinely acknowledged by the opposition. It was easy to
miss in all the noise and after match activity - but I thought this was
a thoughtful gesture, full of meaning and for me, was proof positive
that the manner in which the boys had conducted themselves all season
had been noticed and appreciated by others. The Redbacks, boys of their
own age, were saying they thought the Spitfires were a good Futsal
team.
The Spitfires record in their inaugural Futsal season was as follows:
3 x losses
4x draws
7 x wins
What
a remarkable record and from what I know of the results this season
across all the teams, it is very likely the best overall record of all
the teams. Could any of us have imagined the Spitfires doing this well
before our first game?
Congratulations to all the boys in the Futsal team on a wonderful season!

Match report for Thursday the 8th of March |
|
Tuesday, 13 March 2007 |
|
The Spitfires experienced their second defeat this season in a nail biting match, that had it all. The Spitfires went down 2:3 in the final 30 seconds of the game. I
was particularly pleased with the boys' performance tonight and from a
coaching perspective it was a winning performance. Every task assigned
to the boys and every individual skill or team based tactic rehearsed
at training was implemented in the course of the game. The Spitfires
were more skilful than their opponents over the entire game, but a very
slow start and several errors (exploited effectively by the Red Arrows)
made it an extremely difficult game to win.
