2nd XI won 1st Innings against Marist 2nd XI |
|

|
The 2nd XI played a vital two-day match against Marist College at Grammar. Marist won the toss and elected to bat, scoring at a steady pace to be 7 declared for 293. Strong bowling performances from Roshan Witheratne and Harry L'Estrange helped restrict Marist’s total. The second half of the match saw Grammar chasing a very difficult total, against quality bowling attacks. The run chase started badly with Grammar losing quick wickets to be 4 for 101 and hanging on to an unlikely draw. Grammar still determined for victory watched an amazing batting performance from Chris McClelland who batted with the lower half of the order to make an unbelievable 105 not out, and win the game for Grammar. Strong determined batting from Chris and support from Tom Christian, Robert Ringland and captain Will Haines saw an unlikely win become reality.
I would like to take this opportunity to personally acknowledge the efforts of the entire team, who are still undefeated and winning the competition.

2nd XI Cricket Report. Round 1
20 & 27 October 2007
Canberra Grammar School played a two-day game against Trinity at home. In the first match of the season, Grammar won the toss and elected to bat. Scoring 9 dec. for 267, in 48 overs, our side was in a strong position.Very good individual batting performances from Adam Nelson (42), Harry Lestrange 55 and Chris McClelland not out on 60, were certainly highlights of the innings. Trinity lost two early wickets but maintained their composure to be 2 for 75 at the conclusion of the first days play.
The following week saw Grammar steadily take wickets to have Trinity, 9 for 130, 37 runs short of the follow on strong performances from Russell Green and Roshan Witheratne with the ball, help the steady flow of wickets. Trinity again defied odds with a ten-wicket partnership of 40, to avoid the follow on and take any chance of outright victory for grammar. Trinity were eventually dismissed for 170. Overall the season started well for Grammar and I hope that continued improvements will help this team against Radford next weekend.

Second XI vs Newington College |
|
Wednesday, 17 October 2007 |
The second XI travelled to Newington College in Sydney as
part of their annual fixture during the holidays.
In a very dominating display
grammar bowled out Newington for 89 and ended the days play 6 for 125.
Very
strong performances to many individuals including Ryan Goodman 4 for 28 off 15
overs was the stand out. Strong batting performances from Adam Nelson, Will
Haines and Harry Lestrange secured a first innings win for grammar.
The
following day grammar played Newington in a twenty-twenty match due to time
restrictions. Grammar batted first and scored 3 for 144 in a very strong
performance. Again Adam Nelson, Harry Lestrange and Will Haines batted very
well, with strong hitting and running between the wickets. Then to finish off a
very successful tour, Grammar bowled Newington out for 26, which included
magnificent opening spells from Julian Pozner and Russell Green. Russell had 3
for 7, which included a hat trick and Julian ended the day with 4 for 7.
I wish
to thank all the players for their efforts and behaviour on tour, with many
positives comments from billeting parents and members of the public.
