Using Foal Watch – Kate
O’Connor’s story about her experience using the Foal Watch Kit
I breed very few
horses. So far I have only bred two and some more are planned.
I do not make my
living from horse breeding so of course during the mare’s pregnancy I am often
away from the property at work.
I have been
involved with friend’s studs for many years and understand the complex problems
and emergencies that can occur during foaling.
My main fear is missing the birth of a foal and a resulting death to my
precious mare and newborn.

Australia is provisionally free of equine influenza
On 14 March Queensland reverted its Amber Zone to a Green Zone, indicating that the State is now free of the disease. New South Wales was officially declared free of equine influenza on 28 February 2008.
It is anticipated that both NSW and QLD's Green Zones will become White Zones on 30 June 2008.
To satisfy World Animal Health Organization (OIE) requirements, Australia will have to maintain effective surveillance for equine influenza until the end of 2008.
It is still essential to report any suspect horses or donkeys to your local vet or the DPI on 1800 675 888 - straight away.
