Boarding at CGS

Canberra Grammar School began life as a boarding school for boys in 1929 and boarding is still the heart and soul of the school. We provide a secure, supportive and happy boarding environment for boys from Years 7-12.

Boarders can be with us for part or all of their secondary schooling; dayboys can experience boarding for a week or even overnight. Boarders join our community from rural and regional Australia and from overseas. Many are the sons of diplomatic and defence families serving abroad.

Our boarders live in comfortable rooms with access through computers to email and the internet monitored by a content keeper. Nursing sisters, tutors, chaplains and counsellors are among the fully qualified and highly experienced staff.

Most boarders at Canberra Grammar School enjoy their studies, take an active role in school life and become significant leaders within the School. The structured environment of the boarding houses helps boys to focus on their studies and develop sound study practices. We monitor each boy's learning through regular, supervised study periods and through individual tutoring. Boarders have access to the School's Resource Centre for prep (homework) in the evenings and on weekends

Boys need physical activity and outdoor recreation - as well as time to just relax.
Within the School and around Canberra they have a wonderful range of safe activities and recreational opportunities to choose from.Canberra Grammar boarders have a great time.
