By any standard, CGS offers a superb education to its boys and girls, successfully blending academic rigour, interesting and varied co-curricular opportunities and outstanding pastoral care. In short, schooling at Grammar continues to provide our young with the skills, values and confidence to build happy and productive lives. Yet every organisation, no matter how successful, needs to regularly re-examine how it engages with its community and how it can best find the resources necessary to fulfill its essential purpose. To this end, Canberra Grammar is embarking on a new era of commitment to the principles and practice of Development in Education. We hope that everyone in our community will welcome the emerging opportunities to join in helping to secure and strengthen the future of our School.
Mark Baker Vision for Development
Why do we need Development at Canberra Grammar School?Fees and government funding alone are not enough. And they never will be again. All independent schools ambitious for a brilliant future must find ways to grow their financial flexibility and security. They must be able to make decisions over time against what it is best for the school, not only against what can be afforded out of current revenue. Development builds more than communities and financial support. Development, done well over time, will greatly strengthen the financial and social fabric of our school. It will grow the friendships, support networks, social interaction and business opportunities of past and present families and alumni. It will enhance our School's reputation, public standing and enrolments. Development stimulates and provides rewards and recognition for service, and celebrates acts of generosity and philanthropy. Individual Giving ProgramIncreasing numbers of Australians are hearing and answering the call to give back to the organisations and causes that matter most to them. Our School has received outstanding major gifts of great personal generosity - for example the Playhouse at Northside infants School - and these acts of private philanthropy not only benefit the students of today and tomorrow, they enrich our whole community with the spirit of giving.

FoundationThe Foundation exists to support the School financially. Since it was established in 1979, the Foundation has made significant contributions towards the building of the South Science Block, the Boarders' Common Room, the Resource Centre and the International Centre. For many years it also supported staff professional development, visiting experts and provided scholarships and bursaries. In 2003 the activities of the Foundation were transferred to the School and there has been little activity by the Foundation since that year. The funds transferred to the School in this reorganisation have been managed in line with their original trust documents. The Education Trust Fund monies are currently invested to support scholarships and prizes while the Building Trust Fund monies have been applied to support the building of the Performing Arts Centre, the Resource Centre and the Health and PE Centre. The Foundation continues to provide CGS with the flexibility and structure to meet current and possible future requirements. Donations to the Building Trust Fund are tax deductible. |
